UDT to market handheld assays in Canada ahead of Olympics

An agreement between Universal Detection Technology and the U.S. Department of Commerce's Commercial Service will allow UDT to promote its handheld bioterrorism detecting assays in Canada.
UDT, which develops early-warning monitoring technologies as well as counterterrorism training programs to protect against bioterrorism and other infectious health threats, will now be listed as a Featured U.S. Exporter on the Commercial's Services Canada Website.
The five-agent bioterrorism detection kits marketed by UDT are extensively used by both first responders and private industry throughout the nationwide.
In testing performed on the kits by the U.S. Department of Defense and the United Kingdom's military, the kits have shown no cross-reactivity with near neighbor species and reported no false positives with commonly encountered white powers.
The kits have been designed to test for anthrax, botulinum toxin, Ricin, plague and SEBS in as little as three minutes.
"We've maintained a solid, growing relationship with the U.S. Department of Commerce, and have worked with them to expand our bio-weapons detection equipment offerings in many international markets, including France and South Korea - this listing with the U.S. Commerce Department gives us the opportunity to continue that growth in Canada, site of the 2010 Winter Olympics," Universal Detection Technology CEO Jacques Tizabi said. "UNDT also supplied its radiation detection equipment for the protection of sports venues at the 2009 Olympics in Beijing."
